Top 5 Olive Oil Hair Masks For Beautiful Hair

at
top-5-olive-oil-hair-masks-for-beautiful-hair

I love using olive oil- it is a kitchen staple, moisturizer, cuticle oil and a brilliant hair oil. I use it as a deep conditioning treatment and as a part of weekly hair masks. In fact, I have limited the use of chemical based products and rely on olive oil to take care of my hair. My other favorite home remedy is coconut oil which has a permanent place in my bathroom cabinet.

To be honest, my hair is dry and requires maintenance-it turns dull and frizzy with seasonal changes. Before I started focusing on DIY remedies I used to frequent the salons, tried the best hair care products and did everything that I possibly could to treat and prevent damage. And, then came a time when I felt that all the product residue was doing no good to my hair. It was then that I decided to turn to natural remedies to treat my hair. Trust me, It has made a huge difference, my hair has never felt this healthier and softer. Not only that, my hair fall has drastically reduced.

If healthy hair is your priority # 1 and you are looking to change the way your hair looks, then you must try the olive oil hair masks I am sharing with you today. Keep scrolling to read more!

Why do you need a hair mask?

If you want your hair to look beautiful, then you must use a hair mask. There is no other way to replenish the lost nutrients from the hair than by using a deeply nourishing hair mask. It protects the hair from environmental factors and even reverses a lot of hair damage. A hair mask is a fabulous way to nourish, moisturize and revitalize dull, dry hair while restoring its natural texture. Your hair will feel soft and look shiny after a few uses.

I prefer using DIY hair masks because these are gentle and chemical free. Plus, I have been using DIY masks for some time and know how amazing the results are.

How often should you use one?

A hair mask should be used once a week to provide hydration and improve manageability.

Why use olive oil for hair?

Olive oil penetrates the hair shaft which makes it ideal for use in hair care. It hydrates the hair and nourishes it with essential nutrients. You can use it as a deep conditioning treatment or as an ingredient in DIY hair masks.

Olive Oil Hair Masks

Olive Oil-Honey Hair Mask

This hair mask is excellent for dry hair, however, you can use it on oily hair too. Honey is a great addition to a hair mask, it is a natural humectant which attracts moisture from the air and has the ability to retain it.

Ingredients

Four Tablespoons Olive Oil

Two Tablespoons Honey

Instructions

  1. Mix olive oil and honey.
  2. Apply this mask on the scalp and hair working from the roots to the tips.
  3. Cover your hair with a shower cap and leave for 30-45 minutes.
  4. Wash off with a mild shampoo

Olive Oil-Egg Hair Mask

Eggs are rich in proteins and other nutrients that give your hair a healthy boost. Proteins in eggs strengthen hair and prevent breakage. I prefer adding either a whole egg or egg yolks to my hair masks. You can skip using egg yolks if you have oily hair.

Ingredients

One Egg

Two Tablespoons Olive Oil

Instructions

  1. Crack open an egg in a bowl and add two tablespoons Olive Oil.
  2. Whisk this mixture till it turns smooth.
  3. Apply this mask on your hair while focussing on the ends.
  4. Wear a shower cap and let it sit for 30 minutes.
  5. Wash off.

Olive Oil-Banana Hair Mask

If you follow gorgeousmantra, then you probably know how extensively I use banana in DIY treatments. It is packed with good nutrients that are great for skin and hair. I absolutely love how my hair feels after using this simple hair mask- banana softens the strands and adds a noticeable shine to make hair appear more beautiful.

Ingredients

One Ripe

Two Tablespoons Olive Oil

Instructions

  1. Take a ripe banana and mash it with a form till smooth.
  2. Add two tablespoons olive oil and mash further to form a smooth paste.
  3. Coat your hair with this mask.
  4. Wear a shower cap and leave for 30 minutes.
  5. Wash off with a mild shampoo.

Olive Oil-Castor Oil Hair Mask

You can use this hair mask to grow longer, thicker hair. Yes, you heard that right! Castor oil is a tried and tested natural remedy to grow and thicken hair. It can be used as a deep conditioning treatment or as a hair mask. Since castor oil has a very thick texture, it is used with a lighter oil. This hair mask is made using two of the best-known oils for hair and can help prevent hair loss and promote hair growth with regular use.

Ingredients

Two Tablespoons Olive Oil

One Tablespoon Castor Oil

Instructions

  1. Mix olive oil and castor oil in a bowl.
  2. Massage this oil mixture into the scalp and apply the rest on your hair.
  3. Cover your head with a shower cap and leave for 30-45 minutes.
  4. Wash off with a mild shampoo and conditioner.

Olive Oil-Yogurt Hair Mask

I generally add some yogurt to most of the hair masks that I use. It is a natural conditioner that is known to tame frizzy and unruly tresses. When used with olive oil, yogurt makes a fantastic hair mask that provides deep nourishment and soothes the scalp. However, you should avoid using yogurt hair mask in winters as it has a cooling effect on the scalp.

Ingredients

Two Tablespoons Olive Oil

Two Tablespoons Unsweetened Yogurt

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix two tablespoons olive oil and two tablespoons unsweetened yogurt.
  2. Coat your hair with this mixture.
  3. Wear a shower cap and leave for 30-45 minutes.
  4. Wash your hair with a mild shampoo.

TipWear an old T-shirt when you apply these hair masks. Some of these can get a little messy in the beginning before the mask dries up.

These are five wonderful hair masks made with olive oil that can give you healthy, beautiful hair in no time. Why don’t you try these at home and share your experience with us in the comments section below?

Very informative…but how to decide which one will suit u

    14 . Nov . 2017
    • Vasundhra Singh

Thanks Lipi, you can use a hair mask as per your needs- a honey mask should ideally suit everyone, egg yolks for dry hair and egg white for oily, castor oil for hair growth, yogurt for soothing the scalp. If your scalp is really sensitive, then you can test a little amount on the scalp and hair first.

I’ve never tried a DIY mask before. I like the idea of using natural ingredients and not having plastic packaging. It goes well with the growing trend of going greener. And I love that you mostly use ingredients I already have in the kitchen (except castor oil… I had never heard of this!)

Thanks Eloise! Castor Oil is considered great for hair growth, you can read more about it on my blog-http://gorgeousmantra.com/castor-oil-for-hair-using-it-the-right-way/. If you plan to use castor oil, test it first by using very little quantity to check it if suits you.

I have super curly and coarse hair so finding products to treat it can be a major pain. Recently, I’ve been creating my own DIY beauty products because I’m afraid of all the harsh chemicals that store bought shampoos have. I’ve never used olive oil in my hair though and have to try this!
