I love making DIY Body Scrubs. One of my favorite weekend activities is to whip up a quick body scrub and use it in the shower. The best thing about DIY scrubs is that you can change the recipes as per the needs of your skin. You can add or skip ingredients and change the proportions as per your choice. The best part is that they give spa-worthy results in the comfort of our home. Since I could not pay any attention to my skin during the last few weeks, I decided to whip up a quick DIY oatmeal scrub this Sunday. It took me just 5 minutes to prepare this recipe and it left my skin super smooth.
This DIY Oatmeal Body Scrub can be prepared with four simple ingredients-Oatmeal, Sugar, Honey and Coconut Oil. I use coconut oil because I have dry skin, you can replace it with any other oil of your preference. You can also add few drops of your favorite essential oil to this recipe to enhance its benefits. You can also use this recipe on the face as an exfoliating mask by skipping sugar.
Benefits of oatmeal for skin
Oatmeal is not just meant for giving a healthy start to the day. Its use in skin care dates back to several centuries. Oatmeal is a humectant that helps in moisturizing the skin. Since it is suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin, oatmeal can be used as part of face wash, scrubs and masks. Oatmeal also helps in soothing itchy, dry skin. Oatmeal has a coarse texture which makes it suitable for exfoliation. I am using ground oats in this recipe to give it a smoother texture and to prevent any mess after the shower.
Sugar-Sugar particles act as exfoliators that gently buff away dead skin cells and leave you with clean, fresh skin. Sugar is a humectant which draws moisture from the air and hydrates the skin. You can use either brown or white sugar in this scrub.
Honey- Honey is packed with the goodness of antioxidants and one of the best ingredients for the skin. It is a cleanser, moisturizer and anti-aging agent. Honey is excellent for use on all skin types and leaves the skin incredibly nourished with regular use.
Coconut Oil-Coconut oil is a moisturizer and a skin softener. It is rich in fatty acids and antioxidants that are perfect for the skin. Coconut oil acts as the perfect base for scrubs and is great for use in DIY recipes. You can use either olive oil, jojoba oil or any other oil of your choice.
DIY Oatmeal Body Scrub
So, here is your recipe for DIY Oatmeal Body Scrub. All you need is to look into your kitchen cabinet for four commonly available ingredients!
Two Tablespoons Oatmeal
Two Tablespoons Sugar
One Tablespoon Honey
- Grind oats to a fine powder in a blender.
- Add sugar and honey to oats.
- Add coconut oil and mix well.
- Massage on the skin in circular motions.
- Wash and pat dry. Follow with a moisturizer.
