DIY Homemade Chocolate Face Mask

Our skin needs a lot of love and catering to its changing requirements is no easy task. Regular cleansing, toning, and moisturizing helps in keeping skin healthy but when it comes to nourishment, a lot more is required. My skin usually needs ample hydration and DIY face masks are my favorite when it comes to nourishing it. DIY Face masks benefit all types of skin and can be customized as per your skin related concerns. They treat the skin by supplying the moisture and nutrients it requires. In fact, I have always felt that fresh homemade face masks are as effective as the store-bought ones. These are natural and I know what I am putting on my skin. Let’s just say it is safe for use on the skin if it is edible!

Yesterday I made a simple chocolate face mask using three common kitchen ingredients- cocoa powder, yogurt, and honey. This face mask is so delicious that it can double up as a dessert and I had to stop myself from eating it 🙂 . This amazing antioxidant-rich face pack can be made in minutes and makes the skin glow immediately after application. Not to mention, this chocolate face mask is great for moisturizing the skin and can be used as a weekly anti-aging treatment.

Since any face mask cannot work for all types of skin, it is important to figure out what works best for you. My skin is dry and this mask makes it soft and moisturized. Few drops of olive oil can be added to it if you have very dry or damaged skin. For oily skin, addition of gram flour (besan) and skipping yogurt can prove beneficial. However, if your skin is prone to breakouts, it is better to test this mask before using it.

DIY Homemade Chocolate Face Mask

1 Tablespoon Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

1 Tablespoon Yogurt

1 Tablespoon Honey

Cocoa Powder– Cocoa powder smells heavenly and can instantly uplift your mood. But have you ever wondered why it finds a place in many beauty products? Cocoa powder is rich in antioxidants that fight free radicals and keep the skin radiant. It moisturizes the skin and has powerful anti-aging properties. So, you can avoid eating calorie-laden chocolates but using it on the skin can have multiple beauty benefits.

I used Hershey’s unsweetened cocoa powder to make this face pack.

YogurtYogurt contains lactic acid which helps to remove dead skin and unclog pores. It is rich in minerals that nourish the skin and keep it young.

Honey– Honey is a humectant which attracts and retains moisture on the skin. Besides moisturizing the skin, it helps in keeping it young. Its antibacterial properties make it perfect for use on acne prone skin.

In a small bowl, take 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder and add one tablespoon honey.

Add yogurt and mix till you get a lump free smooth paste.

Your chocolate face pack is ready! Apply on clean, dry skin with your fingertips and let it sit for 20 minutes.

Rinse with lukewarm water.

Pat dry and apply a moisturizer.

Chocolate face masks are easily available in the market. However, they may contain ingredients that can irritate your skin. This homemade chocolate face mask is gentle, easy to make and is effective in treating dull skin. And, what can be better than a freshly made face mask which is free of any chemicals?

Make this DIY homemade chocolate face mask at home whenever your skin demands some extra TLC and share your experience in the comments section below. We would love to hear from you!
