Have you ever realized that our summers are incomplete without watermelon! Yes, this deliciously juicy fruit is perhaps the most refreshing thing about summers. We love it in our salads, enjoy drinking watermelon juice and it is now becoming a popular skincare ingredient. In fact, watermelon is the favorite fruit of Korean beauties and is an integral part of Korean skincare.
So, why the buzz around watermelon and its skincare benefits? Synonymous with summer, this fruit has more than 90% water and is rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin A, amino acids, and Lycopene. Vitamin C is known to boost collagen production and improves skin elasticity. Vitamin A is also known for its beauty benefits, it helps in the synthesis of new cells. Lycopene, a phytonutrient is anti-inflammatory and helps in soothing the skin. Do you know that watermelon is the richest source of lycopene? Surprised? Yes, it contains more lycopene than tomatoes.
The presence of antioxidants in watermelon makes it a strong free radical fighting agent. These free radicals are the main cause of aging and other skin damage. It is because of these properties, watermelon is considered as a skin superfood.
