We are what we eat! Although it may sound cliche this phrase makes so much sense when it comes to skin health. No beauty treatment or product can give you glowing skin if you do not follow a healthy diet. And as we all know, no diet is complete without the mention of delicious, juicy fruits. Fruits are filled with antioxidants that boost the health of our skin and fight free radicals to keep it young.

Regular consumption of these fruits can improve your skin’s overall appearance. In fact, you will be surprised at how your skin responds to the change. You can also make delectable face masks using these fruits to rejuvenate your skin.

Apple

With numerous health benefits, it is true that an apple a day can indeed keep a doctor away. However, do you know that it can also keep wrinkles at bay? The high content of Vitamin C in apple promotes skin health. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that improves skin elasticity and keeps the skin free of fine lines. In addition, Apple has Vitamin A, another important skin vitamin which brightens and tightens the skin.

Kiwi

If you thought that lemon and orange are the highest sources of Vitamin C, you will be surprised to know that 100 gm of kiwi contains a whopping 154% Vitamin C ! Do you need more reason to include it in your diet? Vitamin C is most effective when consumed with Vitamin E and kiwi also contains a good amount of Vitamin E. These two skin vitamins make kiwi one of the most nourishing foods for the skin. When applied topically, it improves skin elasticity and also helps in preventing breakouts.

Avocado

I am deeply, madly in love with the taste of fresh homemade guacamole. Life would be so boring without avocados, right? This tasty and creamy fruit is rich in good fats that are great for your skin. Not only that, it contains Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamin B-6, Magnesium, Calcium and other anti-aging antioxidants. When applied topically, avocado provides deep moisturization and nourishment to the skin. In fact, you should apply avocado mask once a week to keep your skin smooth, plump and glowing.

Papaya

Papaya is probably the best-known fruit in skincare which is why you commonly find its mention in the ingredient lists of your favourite beauty products. Papaya contains the enzyme papain which exfoliates dead skin and inhibits the growth of unwanted facial hair. Papapa is also known for its anti-aging benefits.  This fruit exfoliates, hydrates and also boosts skin elasticity by improving collagen production. Its natural bleaching properties help in getting rid of dark spots which is why many salons offer papaya facials to treat pigmentation.

Pomegranate

One of the most nutritious fruits, pomegranate is known for its multiple beauty benefits. Antioxidants present in its seeds repair environmental and free radical damage. Pomegranate is also known to boost cell renewal and prevent signs of aging. You can also use pomegranate in DIY face masks by either blending the seeds to make a paste or using the powder of its peel.

Pineapple

Pineapple is another fruit that you must consume for glowing skin. The high content of Vitamin C in this refreshing fruit keeps your skin free of damage. Besides, Vitamin C also helps in fighting acne and breakouts. Eating pineapple or drinking its juice is a great way of nourishing your body with Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamin K and Potassium.

Strawberry

Say goodbye to dull skin with strawberry! It is one of those fruits that you can eat when you are craving a snack. Since it is easy to carry a box full of strawberries in your bag, you have more reason to include it in your diet. Strawberry is rich in Vitamin C, which is perhaps the most important vitamin for skin. It also contains Vitamin A and other beneficial antioxidants for the skin.

Orange

Drinking a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice or simply eating an orange can boost your complexion and give you flawless skin. While orange is a rich source of Vitamin C, you will be surprised to know that its peel has the highest concentration of Vitamin C. In fact, orange peel is an ingredient found in many beauty products, You can also use dried orange peel to make a powder and use it in DIY face masks.

Watermelon

Watermelon has more than 90% water and it is rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin A, amino acids, and Lycopene. Vitamin C is known to boost collagen production and improves skin elasticity. Vitamin A is also known for its beauty benefits, it helps in the synthesis of new cells. Lycopene, a phytonutrient is anti-inflammatory and helps in soothing the skin. Do you know that watermelon is the richest source of lycopene? Yes, it contains more lycopene than tomato.

Banana

Banana contains Vitamin B-6, Vitamin C, potassium and other skin-friendly nutrients. Potassium helps to moisturize and hydrate the skin while the other nutrients offer anti-aging benefits. Banana can also be used to make nourishing face and hair masks. In fact, you can also use banana peel on the face to treat fine lines and acne. With so many beauty benefits, banana deserves a place in your diet and in your DIY recipes!
